Selecting the Right Products...
Key Benefits
Capabilities
There are many comparable products available on the market, selecting the
correct product give the client the best feature set to meet their requirements.
- Whole House Audio / Video
- Most whole house systems have a fixed number of zones
(4-6) and sources (3-6). Some of the manufactures offer expandable systems so future options aren't restricted. Others offer upgrade paths to include video switching, although flexibility is key when considering the latest change in
High Definition. Upgradeability is key so you can integrate new technologies like iPod and XM Satellite. These systems can be controlled by remote, keypad,
and/or touchscreens.
- Home Theater
- The latest advances to in-wall/in-ceiling speakers
allows to provide a very clean look and not compromise on sound quality.
Actually, the sound field can be improved by using an acoustically
transparent screen and placing the LCR (left, center, right) channels in the
wall behind the screen. THX subwoofers can even be placed in the
walls, which provides the opportunity to "frame" the screen area.
- A good rule of thumb is to budget equal amounts for
audio and video. With the competition between LCD and DLP
technologies, design improvements have lead to many options for various room
sizes, lighting conditions, and mounting locations.
- Intercom / Paging / CCTV
- Many times these functions, such as CCTV, can be integrated into whole
house audio / video solutions. However, there are many cost effective
solution that are stand alone.
- Lighting Controls
- Whether dimming the lights automatically when the move starts, or
controlling every light in your house from a wallplate or control panel,
several product line allow for many solutions. Several can even be
retrofitted using your existing electrical wiring.
- Standard Equipment
- Now that most audio and video equipment (such as receivers, DVD or
BluRay, Plasma or LCD) has become commodity product, there are still models
available to custom installers that provide additional features.
However, all commodity equipment is still available as a convenience.
